PathWiz! Version 5.0 Released

The Master Genealogist (TMG) is a very popular and powerful Windows genealogy program. As good as it is, someone can always determine some way to make it even better. PathWiz! is an add-on utility written by Bryan Wetton in Australia that adds a lot of functionality. You can read my earlier article about PathWiz version 4.0 in the January 2, 2005 newsletter.

If you have ever moved TMG exhibits from one computer to another, you may have experienced some problems finding and keeping various image files that were spread around your old PC's hard drive. PathnWiz! consolidates all the required image files into one folder.

In addition, the program has the ability to directly edit the Topic, Reference, Description and Caption fields of a list of  related exhibits (for example - External Images attached to persons) from one screen. It also has the ability to see the actual images, both internal and external, provided they are available.

PathWiz! will also create a "Comprehensive Exhibit Catalogue," both internally and in Microsoft Word. This catalogue is really an inventory of all exhibits.

Bryan Wetton has now released version 5.0 of this powerhouse. The new version is now multi-language, with German, Dutch and Norwegian versions available in addition to English. In addition, tools are available in version 5.0 to add still more languages.

Numerous other enhancements have been added to version 5.0. You can read about them at http://www.sceya.com.au/pathwizv5/#new.

PathWiz version 5.0 is available in two versions:

A free version has many of the capabilities of the full program but lacks:

  • pictures in the Catalogue
  • a Microsoft Word Catalogue
  • the ability to import text from a file
  • the ability to put new information back into TMG

Of course, the full retail version adds all those capabilities. The full version sells for $22 Australian, roughly $15 in U.S. funds. You can purchase the program online via a secure and safe shopping cart system. Use of a credit card eliminates the hassle of converting funds to Australian dollars and probably saves money to boot.
